Abstract: The smoke density testing for low smoke halogen-free cable is one of the important indicators that could feedback the combustion performance of the cable. This paper analyzed the main factors that influenced this experiment from aspects of the theory of the smoke density testing, requirements of the test set, the process of the test, etc. It proposed specific control measures for the combustion chamber, the optical test unit, the standard fire source, the smoke mixture, choice of the number of test samples. The result shows that these measures promote the accuracy and reliability of the testing.
